Offered jointly by the College of Medicine and the College of Education, this certificate program is designed for teachers in secondary education, anatomy instructors at community colleges, and others seeking post-baccalaureate education in the anatomical sciences.

Learn the anatomy through practical, clinically-relevant exercises instead of through rote memorization of tables of muscles and cells. Encompassing gross anatomy embryology, and microanatomy at the cellular level, this graduate certificate program offers a complete study of the anatomy of the human body.

Offered by the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology and the Department of Physiology and Functional Genomics, this certificate will help students develop an understanding of the integrated anatomy and physiology of the human body

Anatomical Sciences Education MS

This online, non- thesis Master of Science program is designed to provide online courses in a learning format that address anatomical base knowledge including gross anatomy, microscopic anatomy, embryology, and cell biology, and to introduce students to the bases of pedagogy. Furthermore, the program is flexible enough to allow the student to pursue neuroscience, neuroanatomy, and medical physiology courses as electives. The educational path of this MS degree program uniquely blends training in human anatomy with developing pedagogical methods of teaching and assessment.

Anatomical Sciences Education PhD

The PhD program in human Anatomical Sciences Education is a dissertation-based doctoral program designed to train individuals to become fully qualified educators in all of the anatomical disciplines and conduct educational scholarly research for promotion and tenure. It offers a broad range of courses related to medical human gross and microscopic anatomy, anatomical imaging, cell biology, combined with higher education. This program will cover anatomical knowledge, pedagogical expertise, and assessment skills critical for training students for a career in teaching anatomy at the university level and in conducting scholarship in medical education. Students will be mentored to perform and document medical educational research culminating in a dissertation that will be defended in front of a PhD committee composed of faculty from the Colleges of Medicine and Education.

 

Frequently asked Questions

How long does it take to complete the certificate?
It is up to the student to decide how many courses to take per semester. Most students take one or two courses per semester. One course per semester would take four semesters.

Will my certificate say “online” or be different compared to a traditional on-campus certificate?
The certificate will not say “online” and it will be the same as a certificate earned on-campus.

Is this certificate 100% online? Will I have to come to campus?
All courses are 100% online and students are not required to come to campus.

Can I begin taking courses as a non-degree student, and then be formally admitted and receive a certificate?
Courses taken as a non-degree seeking student cannot be officially transferred into a certificate program. However, these courses can be used to satisfy course requirements. 

Can I transfer credits to another university?
If you are currently earning a degree at another institution, it would be at their discretion whether credits could be transferred.

Is the certificate accredited?
All courses and certificates offered by the University of Florida are regionally accredited by SACSCOC. More information is available here: www.sacscoc.org

Can I start the certificate in any semester?
Yes, students can start in Fall, Spring or Summer.

How is testing done?
Testing is done via webcam by HonorLock.

Can I skip a semester?
UF has recently updated their “skipped term” policy to exclude the Summer term. Now students only need to reapply for admission if they have missed back to back Spring and Fall terms.
